Accreditations and Certifications
Patient associations, health insurers and patients themselves are looking at the quality of hospitals ever more. Quality institutes and patient associations have quality qualifications and health insurance companies choose preferred hospitals. The Catharina Hospital has several important quality markings and certificates. The hospital is a preferred treatment provider in a number of healthcare areas for one or more health insurers.
‘Pink Ribbon’ and quality label ‘breast cancer’
Health insurer CZ puts the Catharina Hospital in the highest category of breast cancer care. The fact that breast cancer care in our breast cancer center is particularly good also proves the ‘Pink Ribbon’ of the Breast Cancer Association Netherlands. We are at the national forefront with our offering of the latest treatment techniques, such as Intra Operative Radiotherapy. The percentage of reoperations is noticeably low at the Catharina Hospital. If there is a lumb in the breast area, our patients get clarity about this in the shortest time possible.
The breast cancer center at the Catharina Hospital has been awarded the ‘European Breast Cancer Certificate’ from Eusoma. Eusoma is the leading international organisation in breast cancer. Eusoma was the first organisation in Europe to start adopting guidelines and indicators for good breast cander care and endeavors to have an equally high level of breast cander care in all countries of Europa. Eusoma visits hospitals and licenses hospitals that meet the highest requirements in breast cancer care. The Catharina Hospital is the first and only Dutch hospital with the Eusoma certificate.
Quality labels colon cancer
For patients with colon cancer, the Catharina Hospital has developed an accelerated care path. The entire path aims to provide the best care possible, with excellent guidance and special treatments. Health insurers Achmea and Menzis praise our intestinal cancer care with the TopZorg (TopCare) quality label (Menzis) and ‘quality hospital’ label (Achmea).
Center of Excellence for overweight
The Catharina Hospital is recognized as ‘Center of Excellence’ for overweight. This international quality mark indicates that in the hospital, obese patients get the best care possible. The quality of care for overweight patients in the hospital has been tested externally by an international audit of the European Accreditation Council for Bariatric Surgery (EAC-BS). The Catharina Hospital is one of three Dutch hospitals with this important quality mark.
Vascular surgery and Varicose veins quality labels
The vascular surgeons of the Catharina Hospital have received the vascular quality mark and the varicose veins quality label of the Heart and Veins group for years in a row: a guarantee for the best vascular care.
Green checkmark for quality stoma care
The Catharina Hospital has received the ‘green checkmark’ for good stoma care in the ‘Stoma Zorgwijzer’ of the stoma association. A hospital deserves a green checkmark if it meets all thirteen standards for good stoma care. The standards for this quality label set by a cooperation of stoma carriers, stoma nurses, surgeons and urologists.
Smileys: a child-friendly hospital
Parents are allowed stay in the children's section throughout the day, and if necessary at night too. With this criterion, Catharina Hospital earns the Smiley of patient organization ‘Child and Hospital’. This organization allocates Smileys to hospitals for child-friendliness. For these Smileys, the hospital must meet different criteria. Our hospital has two Smileys: for the children's section and for the maternity ward. For more information, visit www.kindenziekenhuis.nl.
WHO/UNICEF certificate 'Care for Breastfeeding'
The Catharina Hospital guarantees pregnant women and newborn mothers the best possible support for breastfeeding. Therefore, the Catharina Hospital received the WHO/UNICEF certificate ‘Care for Breastfeeding’. The foundation Care for Breastfeeding issues this certificate to institutions that comply with the ten international rules for good breastfeeding policy.
Patient approval mark Freya
Freya, the association for people with fertility problems, indicates which hospitals meet the quality criteria of the association by issuing the ‘Freya Plume’. The Catharina Hospital has a plume as well. This means that we provide good information, treatments can take place seven days a week and we meet key quality criteria such as providing psychosocial support and no unnecessary repetition of stressful examinations.
HKZ certificate dialysis
The Harmonized Quality Assesment in healthcare (HKZ) examines the quality of a specific sector within care. The HKZ certificate has been issued to the Catharina Hospital dialysis department. With this certificate, our dialysis department shows that it organizes all processes well. This ensures that all conditions are met to provide optimal care.
CCKL certificate for the IVF lab and the General Clinical Laboratory
Our pharmacy, nutrition, medical technology and clinical physics have received an ISO 9001 certificate. ISO 9001 is a European label that indicates that an organization has its quality management system in order. The norm is used and applied equally in all European countries.
